PARADISE VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -
Six burglaries have been reported in Paradise Valley neighborhoods south of Shea and east of Tatum.
That's according to Paradise Valley Independent editor Terrance Thornton, who was notified of the crime spree through an email from Commander Alan Laitsch of the Paradise Valley Police Department.
In one instance, an eyewitness could only describe the suspect as short. He was reportedly about 5'5" to 5'7" tall.
There have also been reports of a 50-year-old man with brown hair possibly posing as a meat salesman. When one homeowner would not open the door, the man insisted he at least be let in for a glass of water, which didn't happen.
"I'm scared because it just happened next door, so close to us," said Sam Primack, an 11-year-old Paradise Valley resident who was home with the babysitter during one of the burglaries.
Sam said it was a week ago Saturday night when a Paradise Valley policeman knocked on his door.
"He went into our backyard to check what was going on, see if he was still hiding in our backyard," said Sam.
"The dog barked them away," said Allyson Primack, Sam's mom.
She said their elderly neighbor was home and scared when someone broke in.
"I think she was hiding when she heard the glass break. My understanding is that they did gain access to the home and that they did take jewelry," said Primack.
This is not an isolated incident.
The Paradise Valley Independent lists several robberies in the past couple of weeks, four of them with similar circumstances.
Almost all of the break-ins happened at night with something heavy thrown through a back window. Jewelry is the primary target.
"We're nervous because I know they haven't found the individual yet," said Primack.
CBS 5 reached out several times to Commander Alan Laitsch at the Paradise Valley police department for more information. We are waiting to hear back.
