Crime scene in the 100 block of N. Nopal Place in Chandler

One person is dead and three others wounded from a shooting in Chandler on Thursday night.
A spokesman for the Chandler Police Department said 48-year-old William Hammond went to the apartment complex in the 100 block of North Nopal Place and was involved in a shootout with three people who lived in the apartments. The residents returned fire and Hammond died at the scene.
Police said they believe there were multiple shots fired from two weapons.
The three people at the apartment were wounded. One of the victims, a 24-year-old man, has life-threatening injuries. The other two are expected to be OK, the spokesman said.
Chandler police are investigating why Hammond went to the complex.
