A retired police officer who was given a lifeline is now recovering in a Phoenix hospital.
Retired Officer Mike Newman needed a kidney transplant to survive end state renal failure. Kellie Boff, the Bullhead City Chamber of Commerce operations director, stepped in to help by offering to donate her kidney. It's being dubbed an "angel" donation." Boff says she couldn't stand the idea of Newman spending his days on dialysis.
"He had no life, and after all those years serving and protecting the community it's just, it was a crying shame, it was sad," said Boff.
The transplant was a success. Newman says he's still in pain but he's extremely grateful for the gift of life.
