TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

A caregiver at a Tucson assisted living facility is in custody for allegedly stealing jewelry from an elderly resident.

Pima County Sheriff's officials said Wednesday that 63-year-old Sylvia Delgado Cruz is being held in the county jail on suspicion of theft and trafficking in stolen property.

They say the theft was reported Oct. 16 by the daughter of the 86-year-old assisted living resident.

Authorities say the victim claimed nine pieces of jewelry worth several thousands of dollars were missing and provided a list of individuals who had access to her apartment.

Detectives say they found several pieces of stolen jewelry that had been pawned by Cruz.

They say a search of Cruz's home turned up four more pieces of jewelry.

Authorities didn't immediately know Wednesday whether Cruz had a lawyer.
