TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Authorities have identified a man whose body was pulled from Tempe Town Lake early Monday morning.

The man is 34-year-old Christopher Robin Gonzales, Tempe police said. His hometown was not provided.

Police said people were walking by the lake about 3 a.m. and heard a loud splash.

When an officer arrived, he jumped in to try to save the victim.

Firefighters arrived and sent in a dive team who later located the body.

The investigation is ongoing, said Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Glover.
