Buckeye car crash leads to discovery of double homicide

BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -

A car crash in Buckeye on Sunday led police to the home of the vehicle's registered owner, where they discovered two bodies.

The crash happened at about 7:50 a.m. on Rainbow Road near Hilton Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Elwood Moreno, 33, of Buckeye, was critically injured and flown to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers went to the home of the vehicle's registered owner in the 1400 block of East Maricopa 85. When they arrived, they found the apartment door was open, Buckeye police spokesman Jared Griffith said.

Officers said they noticed blood on the floor and attempted to check if anybody was inside, Griffith said.

Police found a man and a woman dead inside. They were later identified as Elwood Moreno's father, Ramsey Moreno, 57, and Elwood Moreno's stepmother, Nancy Moreno, 69, according to Griffith. Both of the victims were stabbed multiple times, Griffith said.

Elwood Moreno is considered is considered an investigative lead.

He remains in the hospital in critical condition.
