NEW RIVER, AZ (CBS5) -
Two people were injured in a traffic accident that shut down one southbound lane of Interstate 17 near New River on Sunday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
A truck pulling motorcycles had a blowout at mile marker 234, 2 miles north of New River at about 11 a.m., DPS said.
The driver appeared to have lost control and his vehicle was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler, DPS said. The impact of that crash pushed the truck from the roadway and into a ravine.
The two people trapped in the truck had to be rescued and airlifted to a trauma hospital.
Their names and conditions are not known. Both southbound lanes are open.
No further information was immediately available.
