Police seek suspect in Tempe bank robbery

TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Police in Tempe are looking for a man accused of robbing a Valley bank and believed to be involved in a second bank robbery.

Tempe police said the suspect was carrying a black, zippered folder when he entered the U.S. Bank inside Safeway at 1515 E. Elliot Rd. in Tempe on Oct. 4. The suspect handed a note to the teller along with a grocery bag and took out a black and silver handgun.

The suspect got away with an unknown amount of cash.

Police believe he also robbed Compass Bank inside the Albertsons grocery store on Ray Road in Chandler on Oct. 3.

He is described as Hispanic and approximately 30 years old. He is believed to be 5'8'' and 240 pounds with dark hair and prescription glasses. He was last seen wearing a maroon ASU hat and a yellow ASU long-sleeve shirt.
