PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Mesa police are holding a nurse, Brandon Renner, 31, after he was accused of stealing almost 350 doses of narcotics for his personal use from Mountain Vista Medical Center's dispensing units.
Renner allegedly took 349 doses of morphine, fentanyl, Dilaudid, Ativan and Demerol. Renner used his bio-metric and hospital ID card over the past several weeks to obtain the drugs.
The hospital administration discovered the missing narcotics while performing an unrelated audit.
Mesa police arrested Renner Thursday after police found 41 half-empty viles of narcotics, used and unused syringes and drug related items in his lunch box.
Mesa police are holding Renner on suspicion of obtaining narcotic drugs by misrepresentation, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft.
The Mountain Vista Medical Center released the following statement on Friday afternoon in regards to the investigation.
"At Mountain Vista Medical Center, our number one priority is the safety and security of our patients. At this time, the hospital is cooperating fully with local authorities. Because this is an ongoing police investigation, we are unable to comment further."
