Elderly man fatally struck by car while crossing Phoenix street

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

An elderly man was fatally struck by a car while crossing Indian School Road in Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said Joseph James Genova, 63, was attempting to walk across Indian School Road mid-block at about 6 p.m. when he was struck by a 1992 Nissan Sentra driven by a 48-year-old man. Genova was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver wasn't hurt.

Police said there are no charges pending at this time as the investigation is still ongoing and there are no indications of impairment.
