TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -
A convicted murderer was thwarted by a security fence in his attempt to escape a state prison near Tucson Wednesday morning.
Jimmy Odom assaulted a contract employee about 8:40 a.m., took his delivery truck and drove through an interior fence before crashing and stopping at the double-perimeter fence of the Cimarron Unit near Tucson, according to DOC spokesman Bill Lamoreaux.
An armed corrections officer took Odom into custody, and the unit remained on lockdown until an investigation could be done by the DOC.
Odom was serving a life sentence out of Coconino County for first-degree murder, burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping.
