PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A new report shows the number of adults with bachelor's degrees in Arizona is on the rise.
Recently released data from the 2011 American Community Survey shows that 26.6 percent of Arizonans 25 years of age or older have attained a bachelor's degree, up 9.2 percent from 2008.
"This is positive news for Arizona as higher education attainment is directly linked to our state's economic success and individual earning potential," said Arizona Board of Regents Chair Rick Myers.
The Arizona Board of Regents developed a statewide plan to reach the national average of adults with bachelor's degrees in an attempt to ensure an educated workforce for the state.
Arizona's three state universities currently award 22,000 bachelor's degrees per year but the system is working to increase that number to approximately 30,000 by the year 2020.
