PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Known for "doing the most good", the Phoenix Salvation Army continues to keep its word.
No doubt you've seen the "Angel Trees" in places like local malls during the holidays, and the hope is you'll consider buying a gift for a child or family in need.
"We really appreciate all the families that pick the Angel Trees, and if it wasn't for their participation in it also, this program would not exist," said David Oakley of the Phoenix Citadel Salvation Army.
For the rest of this week, the Salvation Army will register thousands of Phoenix families in need of holiday assistance.
"We've seen a lot more volume of people in the last few years and unfortunately, you can't help them all," Oakley said.
Registration at the various locations begins at 8:30 a.m. and is on a first come, first serve basis. Each location can only register 150 families.
"The first people here last night were here at 10:45 p.m., and he stayed all night, almost just like a concert," said Oakley.
The Salvation Army hopes to serve close to 50,000 children and their families through this holiday assistance program.
Oakley added, "I would just like to thank the Arizona community for all that they've done for the Salvation Army and for their commitment to the Salvation Army, and the good that they do to help us."
