Prescott Valley police are investigating a family feud they believe began with a 44-year-old man killing his mother and turning on his brother, before being shot and killed.
Officers rushed to a report of shots fired in the 3600 block of Robert Road Thursday afternoon.
A caller inside the home reported that there were two victims, according to investigators.
Prescott Valley police spokesman Brandon Bonney said they've released 28-year-old Daniel Wood who was being held as a person of interest.
Daniel Wood told investigators that he, his brother Edward Wood and their mother, Elizabeth Wood, 72, were cleaning Edward Wood's duplex when an argument started. Daniel Wood said his brother Edward left the duplex and came back with two handguns. Daniel Wood said he heard several gunshots in the living room. Edward Wood allegedly shot and killed their mother. The brothers then got in a fight which ended with Daniel Wood shooting and killing Edward Wood, according to police.
Daniel Wood called 911 and police say he is cooperating authorities.
Bonney said the case will be turned over to the Yavapai County Attorney's Office to decide if any charges will be filed.
