SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A Scottsdale man was stabbed numerous times but still held onto his attacker until police arrived after a home invasion Thursday morning, according to Scottsdale police.

William Traynor was awakened about 3:45 a.m. and confronted the suspect, identified as Michael Garland, 62, inside the house at 8519 E. San Lorenzo Dr., according to Sgt. Mark Clark of the Scottsdale Police Department.

They got into a struggle and Garland took out a knife and stabbed Traynor numerous times, police said. Undeterred, Traynor was able to hold onto the intruder until police arrived, Clark said.

Traynor, 55, was taken to a Scottsdale hospital for treatment of his wounds and is expected to be all right.

Traynor's wife, Pricilla, and 15-year-old son were also in the house at the time of the break-in but were unharmed, according to Clark.

Garland was arrested and in custody. Clark said police do not think the suspect, who police said is a transient, knew Traynor or his family.

No other information was immediately available.
