PHOENIX (CBS5) -
One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi and an SUV on Interstate 10 Tuesday afternoon.
ADOT said the commercial truck jackknifed on westbound I-10, west of Phoenix.
Officer Carrick Cook with the Department of Public Safety said the driver of the SUV, Richard Burgit, had a tire blow out, causing his vehicle to cross the center median and collide with the semi. The SUV was pushed against the median wall where both vehicles came to a rest, according to Cook.
Burgit was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10 at Miller Road were closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene.
