FREDONIA, AZ (CBS5) -

Two campgrounds on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest, will close Oct. 15 for the winter season, district officials said.

Those campgrounds are at Jacob Lake and DeMotte Park. The group site at the Jacob Lake Campground will close Oct. 5.

The forest remains open year-round for dispersed camping and lodging, but the Arizona Department of Transportation will close the gate at Jacob Lake on Highway 67 to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on Saturday, Dec. 1, unless heavy snowfall requires an earlier closure, according to North Kaibab Ranger District spokesman Patrick Lair.

The Highway 67 gate at Jacob Lake and the campgrounds on the North Kaibab Ranger District typically reopen in early May.
