SAFFORD, AZ (CBS5) -

The victim of Sunday's plane crash near San Carlos on the San Carlos Apache Reservation has been identified as an Alabama man.

Adam Schmitt, 50, was piloting an ultralight aircraft at the time of the crash, according to Bureau of Indian Affairs spokesman Warren Youngman.

Officials said Schmitt and his brother were each flying ultralight aircraft when one of them crashed about 3:30 p.m. They had taken off from Safford and were headed for Show Low.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor identified the aircraft as an Air Creation Tanarg powered parachute. He said it crashed "under unknown circumstances."

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the accident.

No other information was immediately available.
