Tucson PD seek owner of urn found in gym bag

TUCSON, AZ (CBS5) -

Authorities are trying to find the owners of an urn containing human ashes that was wrapped in an American flag and thrown in the Tucson trash.

Tucson police said a passerby found a gym bag in a vacant residential trash near South Eighth Avenue and West Veterans Boulevard on Wednesday. The gym bag held a cream-colored urn with flowers containing a sealed bag of the ashes. Police said it was wrapped in the flag and put in the bag that also had personal letters, pictures and old newspaper clippings.

Police do not know at this time if the bag was stolen or if the owner knows these items are missing.

Anyone with information can call the Tucson police at 791-4444.
