St. John's boy to be sentenced on probation violations

ST. JOHNS, AZ (AP) -

An eastern Arizona boy is set to be sentenced Friday on a trio of probation violations.

The boy acknowledged destroying a wall clock and twice leaving a residential treatment center where he was sent after pleading guilty to negligent homicide in the 2008 death of his father's friend. Prosecutors dropped a murder charge against the boy in his father's death.

Prosecutors have said they would push for a sentence in a secured facility, which could mean another residential treatment center or the state juvenile corrections department.

Defense attorney Ron Wood has said his client doesn't need to be in a juvenile lockup at age 12 and instead needs to be placed at another treatment facility that would serve him better.

Sentencing takes place in Apache County Superior Court in St. Johns.
