TEMPE, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A man already on Arizona's death row has been accused of killing a Tempe man nearly 12 years ago.

Tempe police announced Thursday that 50-year-old Albert Carreon is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Carreon was sentenced to death in April 2003 after being convicted of first-degree murder in a Chandler case.

Police say 20-year-old Jose "Joey" Gonzalez was found dead inside a parked car at the Fiesta Village Townhouse complex in Tempe on Dec. 20, 2000.

They say detectives determined that Gonzalez had been fatally shot at a different location, put in the car he had borrowed from his girlfriend and driven to the townhouse complex.

Police say Carreon was identified as a potential suspect in 2005 and DNA evidence recently linked him to the case.
