PHOENIX (AP) -
Gov. Jan Brewer's chief of staff confirms that she's interviewing for the state university system's top staff job.
Eileen Klein says the situation is very preliminary, but she says she is considering the Board of Regents presidency as a way to continue working on Arizona's economic turnaround.
Klein says she was approached about interviewing. The Arizona Capitol Times (bit.ly/QGnl3l) first reported her interest.
The newspaper also reports that Regent Mark Killian confirms he is also interviewing for the president's position. He's a former legislator and a former Revenue Department director.
Klein joined Brewer's administration as budget director. She became chief of staff in late 2009.
Tom Anderes has been Regents president since 2010. He announced in July he wouldn't seek an extension to his three-year contract that expires in 2013.
