PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS5) -
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man suspected of trying to abduct a boy in Black Canyon City on Saturday.
The 13-year-old boy told deputies he was walking home around 7:15 p.m. when he realized he was being followed by a man in a vehicle, according to Dwight D'Evelyn of the sheriff's office. The boy said he picked up his pace as he turned onto Mud Springs Road and the car followed before pulling alongside the boy.
The driver asked through an open widow if the boy needed a ride, which the boy declined and continued walking, D'Evelyn said. The boy said the man then yelled, "Get in the car" and grabbed his shirt as if to indicate he had a weapon.
The boy said he ran home by using shortcuts through his neighborhood, and once inside his house saw the suspect drive by. The boy's mother called deputies, D'Evelyn said.
The suspect was described as small-framed, skinny, possibly short in height, pale complexion, sandy brown hair in a buzz-cut, small ears, no facial hair, "squinty" eyes and a large nose. D'Evelyn said the boy described the man's voice as high and scratchy. The suspect was wearing a black polo shirt, D'Evelyn said.
The vehicle he was driving was an older model light or faded gray sedan, possibly a two-door. D'Evelyn said the boy saw a baseball cap with a flame graphic, medium size pill bottle and a binder in the car.
Anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle is asked to call YCSO at 928-771-3260 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
