GLOBE, AZ (CBS5) -
The city of Globe is telling residents it's no longer necessary to boil drinking water after tests came back negative for the presence of E.coli.
On Monday, the city had said one of their six water wells had tested positive for the bacteria.
"The moment we received the result, we shut down that well," Globe Interim City Manager Cynthia Seelhammer said.
The city then submitted additional water tests, as required by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Those results came back Tuesday afternoon.
"The report of E.coli was apparently a false positive in the testing, or an error in the sample," the city said on its website Tuesday.
The city said it has increased the chlorine disinfectant levels and flushed out the system.
"We will continue to monitor the quality of our water, and we will take increased measures in the future to prevent any future occurrences of this nature," city officials said.
