Karie Hooks
BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -
A 72-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Friday's seizure of seven malnourished horses from a property in Buckeye.
Karie Hooks was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on a number of charges, including two felonies.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said detectives seized one horse from the property in July and told the owner how to keep the horses in good health.
On Sept. 17, the detectives went to check on the remaining horses and found several in worse condition than before.
On Friday, seven out of 10 horses were taken to Durango Equine Vet clinic to be rehabilitated before going to the sheriff's MASH Unit where they will be cared for by inmates.
Some of the horses appeared to be underweight by as much as 300 pounds.
Three horses were left with the owner.
