FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5/AP) -
A sentencing hearing for a man who pleaded guilty to killing a Utah sheriff's deputy along the Arizona-Utah border in 2010 continues Friday.
Scott Curley was charged with murder, burglary, theft and aggravated assault.
Last month, Curley plead guilty in Coconino County Superior Court in Flagstaff. Prosecutors agreed to drop a pornography case against Curley in exchange for his guilty plea in the murder case.
Authorities say he fatally shot 41-year-old Kane County, UT, Deputy Brian Harris with a high-powered rifle near the Arizona-Utah border.
Following the shooting, Curley fled on foot into the wilderness. He was captured four days later near Kanab, UT.
The prosecution and defense sparred Thursday over whether Curley's actions were those of a man who knew exactly what he was doing and tried to cover his tracks or the result of delusional beliefs.
Curley's attorneys have asked the judge to allow him to become parole-eligible after 25 years.
