PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man waving a rifle in a Phoenix neighborhood was captured by Phoenix police, and then sent a shiver through the neighborhood when he told police he had booby-trapped his home to explode Thursday morning.

Police officers had the man trapped behind a retaining wall in a driveway at a home at 1508 W Tamarisk St., near 15th Avenue and Broadway Road. A rifle could be seen leaning against the wall a few feet from the man.

A SWAT van pulled to the driveway and a number of officers took the man into custody. He then told police he had booby-trapped the house and that a dead body was inside. Both claims turned out to be hoaxes, police said.

No other information was immediately available.
