It's something just about every diner deals with: how much should you tip when eating out?
Today a 15 percent to 20 percent tip is pretty standard, but according to a report in the New York Post that number could be on the rise.
A study of restaurants in New York City found servers expect a tip of 20 to 25 percent.
Michael Lynn, a professor of consumer behavior at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration who studies tipping, looked at close to 9,000 credit card receipts from a restaurant in Poughkeepsie, NY, and found that more than a third of customers - 37 percent - left a tip greater than 20 percent, suggesting that the journey northward from that standard is already in progress.
