CAVE CREEK, AZ (CBS5/AP) -
A Mesa couple is facing child endangerment charges after a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy reportedly found their young children alone in a car in a bar parking lot.
Officer Christopher Hegstrom said the deputy was on routine patrol late Friday night when he drove through a Cave Creek bar parking lot. He spotted the 3- and 4-year-old children in a car and stopped to investigate.
The deputy learned the family arrived at the restaurant and bar at about 8:30 p.m. At about 11 p.m. the parents took the children out to the car and went back inside so they could continue drinking.
The parents came out to the lot as the deputy was investigating and were highly intoxicated, more than double the legal limit, MCSO said.
Mother Desiree David and father Landrey Alex were arrested.
They were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on child abuse/endangerment charges. The two young children were turned over to their grandmother after Child Protective Services was contacted.
