CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -
Close to a dozen cars were set on fire early throughout the East Valley early Thursday morning.
Chandler police alone found four separate cars ablaze and four others that someone had tried to set on fire. Two cars in Mesa were also torched.
Chandler police said they are looking for the suspect(s) in connection to the fires.
"It's a very dangerous situation. These are very unpredictable fires," police Sgt. Joe Favazzo said.
"We're dealing with an automobile. We have tires that can explode. There are gas tanks. We don't know what people have in their cars," he continued.
All four Chandler car fires took place from 2 a.m. to about 2:30 a.m. around Elliot Road and Arizona Avenue, police said.
There were no reports of injures, but those whose cars were destroyed are pretty upset.
"I want to see them get caught," said Michael Haley, whose SUV was burned. "I want a new car. I had to work from home today. I couldn't get to work. I want my car back."
Everyone is encouraged to report any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles in their neighborhood to the police.
If you have any information regarding these crimes police ask that you call Chandler police at (480) 782-4130.
