PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Two Arizona companies are in hot water with Mississippi regulators after reportedly violating that state's telemarketing laws.
Purchase Power Solutions LLC, a debt consolidation agency based out of Tempe, and ELH Consulting in Tucson are being handed $5.7 million in fines. Commissions in Mississippi said the companies compiled more than 1,000 violations for calling people who were on the state's Do Not Call list. It is the largest penalty ever imposed by Mississippi commissioners.
"It doesn't matter where they are, we plan on stopping them from calling and annoying our citizens," said Mississippi Commissioner Brandon Presley.
Folks in the Valley said they agree with the strict penalties.
"They drive me crazy," said one man.
"They're psychic. They always time it properly," he continued.
CBS 5 reached out to Purchase Power Solutions. Our calls went straight to voicemail, and the address listed on their website was actually a UPS store in a Tempe strip mall.
Mississippi commissioners said the companies are likely not just targeting those in Mississippi. If you need to submit a complaint against a telemarketer, you need to contact the state's attorney general's office at 602-542-5763. You can also sign up for the national Do Not Call list at this link.
