WAGON WHEEL, AZ (CBS5) -
A second arrest has been made in connection with an armed robbery and deadly shooting in the Arizona community of Wagon Wheel.
Kelly Strap, 38, of Lakeside, was taken into custody Wednesday by the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.
She was charged with hindering prosecution and obstruction of justice after she gave detectives misleading information concerning the identity her son, Scotty Chism, a suspect in the recent double shooting in Wagon Wheel.
Chism, 19, of Casa Grande and Lakeside, was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Navajo County Jail on charges of armed robbery, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Earlier in the day, authorities responding to a residential robbery found a 22-year-old Mesa man lying near a home with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was taken to Summit Regional Hospital and then flown to a Phoenix hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Chism was transported to Navapache Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his torso.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and spoke to friends, family members, neighbors, roommates and associates to the persons involved prior to arresting Chism, said John James, operation commander for the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.
James characterized the case as "a major investigation encompassing two counties and numerous crimes scenes."
Strap was booked into the Navajo County Jail and is being held on $1,500 bond set by the Pinetop Justice Court.
The Navajo County Sheriff's Office said people with any information about the incident to contact WETIP at 800-78CRIME or contact the sheriff's office at 928-532-6060 or 928-524-4050. Callers may request to remain anonymous.
