YUMA, AZ (CBS5) -
A storm shelter has closed in Yuma after meeting the needs of residents affected by Sunday's storms.
The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter said 16 residents and 29 visitors sought refuge in the shelter at Castle Dome Middle School.
Red Cross officials distributed 250 meals and snacks, 150 bottles of water and five comfort kits containing toiletries. For those Yuma residents unable to get to the shelter, the Red Cross handed out 50 meals and snacks and 60 bottles of water to those who were homebound.
Yuma-based Red Cross volunteers helped give out some of the 18,000 pounds of dry ice supplied by Arizona Public Service at Mt. Zion Church.
Any Yuma residents still without power or running water who need aid are encouraged to contact the Red Cross by calling 1-800-842-7349.
More than 15,000 APS customers lost power in Yuma and surrounding areas after powerful thunderstorms knocked down more than 60 power poles and caused outages at two electric substations.
