Agents from the Arizona Department of Gaming seized illegal gambling devices at more than 40 sites across the Phoenix metropolitan area Saturday.
An investigation was launched after the ADG's Intelligence Unit received information from the California Department of Justice about a California organizations believed to have its sights set on Arizona.
The organization was suspected of distributing illegal gambling devices to various "mom and pop" convenience stores, gas stations and smoke shops in and around Phoenix.
The devices allowed patrons to deposit money, play casino-style games and win credits that could be redeemed for cash.
Undercover ADG Agents visited locations for months and gathered evidence of possible violations of various state gambling statutes.
The ADG, with help from the Phoenix Field Office of the FBI and the Arizona Attorney General's Office, served warrants on 45 local businesses and one storage locker Saturday. Agents seized 54 eight-line gambling devices and five coin-pusher machines, all containing cash.
No arrests had been made and the investigation was still on-going, according to an ADG spokeswoman.
Anyone who suspect there might be illegal gambling is asked to call ADG at 602-255-3888.
