GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

Gilbert police said they are waiting for the medical examiner's report on the death of a 3-month-old boy who died Monday at Gilbert KinderCare.

"At this point in the investigation, there appears to be no criminal conduct," said Gilbert police spokesman Bill Balafas. "It is far from complete. The case is still open."

The boy was found not breathing by the staff at about 5 p.m.

Balafas said the KinderCare staff had begun CPR, which was taken over by police. The child was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

It was not known how long the boy had not been breathing before being found at the daycare at 500 N. Gilbert Rd.

Police conducted interviews with staff throughout the night to determine what happened.

An unidentified KinderCare worker said the staff was grieving and cooperating with police.

KinderCare issued the following statement:

"We are heartbroken that an infant passed away in our Gilbert, AZ, center Monday afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this difficult time.

"We do not know the cause of the child's passing.

"There is a police investigation, and we are cooperating fully. We are also reporting this to State Licensing."

The investigation is continuing, Balafas said.
