Aftermath of explosion and fire
Three people were hurt, two of them burned, when they disturbed a combustible layer of sawdust covering a roof they were cleaning up.
After the explosion, the workers fell through the ceiling into an office below, according to Capt. Scott McDonald of the Phoenix Fire Department.
Fiery dust and debris rained down on one of the employees in the office of Rockhard Design and Surfaces, McDonald said.
Firefighters rushed to the scene at 2425 W. Holly at about 1:20 p.m. Monday, where they found the fire was out but the building was full of smoke.
Two of the three victims were taken to a local burn unit with second and third-degree burns. The third patient was evaluated and refused treatment.
The force of the blast broke a window in front of the building.
