Missing sisters found safe
A 9-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister that have been missing since Wednesday have been found safe.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office credits the power of social media with finding the girls. The sisters biological mother called authorities Saturday to let them know they were with her after she saw posts online.
"Anytime you find children that are missing it feels like you've done a good job," said Officer Chris Hegstrom with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department.
Bella and Esperanza Darrin disappeared Wednesday. The girls were last seen leaving home that morning. Investigators said they never showed up to school. It wasn't until 9 p.m. Wednesday that the girl's foster parents reported them missing. Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday dispatchers got a call.
"When she saw that we were looking for her and not just for her, but looking for the kids, she contacted us. She wanted us to know the kids were safe," said Hegstrom. "Obviously we're going to look into all the circumstances as to what happened and where the kids have been and where they went. We also want to know why she has them."
Hegstrom said the mother agreed to bring the girls to authorities. No word if she will face any charges.
