A former Brophy College Preparatory High School teacher, Dan P. Whitehead, was arrested Saturday morning following allegations of sexual misconduct with former students during the '80s.
Officials said last November, school administrators contacted Phoenix Police Department to report that two former students had advised them that Whitehead had touched each of them on their private parts against their will while at his home.
The alleged incidents occurred in the 1980s when the individuals, who are now adults, were teenage students and Whitehead was a teacher at the school.
After disclosing the information they did not want to contact the police, according to authorities. Whitehead's employment with the school was terminated following the allegations.
"Without contact or information from the victims who are now adults, this investigation was unable to proceed. Eventually, however, several victims and witnesses came forward to the police, which allowed the investigators to conduct this investigation," according to Phoenix Police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that Whitehead, who was a teacher at the school, had invited the victims to his home for various reasons, said authorities.
At his home, they viewed pornography and were provided alcohol by Whitehead, according to Thompson.
He then allegedly fondled or attempted to fondle the victims.
Whitehead was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He was charged with sexual assault, attempted sexual abuse, furnishing harmful items to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
