Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested two illegal immigrants Wednesday who were part of a human smuggling operation.
The pair was among 10 men who jumped from a black Chevrolet SUV that was pulled over for a window-tinting violation north of Phoenix, according to the sheriff's office.
Department of Public Safety officers and a sheriff's helicopter aided in the desert search, but only two of the men were immediately located. Both were found trying to hide under thick brush.
The two captured men told deputies they each paid $2,900 to be taken from Mexico to Los Angeles.
They were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on state felony human smuggling charges, according to the MCSO.
The investigation was continuing.
