SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

Surprise police said a 30-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting Aug. 5 is in a Las Vegas jail awaiting extradition.

Darren Crockett was arrested Wednesday after Surprise police learned he was hiding out at a relative's home and coordinated his capture with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Henderson police and the FBI.

Crockett, who goes by the street name "Gato," is suspected of shooting a 26-year-old man once in the head and once in the leg about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 in the 12700 block of west Cottonwood in Surprise.

After being extradited to Arizona, Crockett will be facing charges of attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital and remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, police said.
