TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Tucson-based Raytheon Missile Systems has won a $230 million Pentagon contract to build 19 advanced missile interceptors.

The company says the order from the Missile Defense Agency is for two versions of its Standard Missile-3. The missiles will be built in the company's Tucson plant and deployed on U.S. and Japanese navy ships.

The upgraded Standard missiles are designed to shoot down short- or intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

Raytheon has delivered more than 135 SM-3 missiles.
