Arizona aviation company sued for discrimination

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -

A Phoenix aviation company is facing a discrimination lawsuit after a former employee says he was harassed because he is Muslim and of Middle Eastern descent.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Wednesday that supervisors at Swift Aviation Group failed to stop harassment and derogatory comments about Arabs after employee Adam Donmez complained.

The agency says Swift Aviation knew that Donmez and other Middle Eastern employees were harassed at work, but management did not stop the harassment, leading Donmez to quit.

The agency filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking back wages and damages for Donmez and an injunction against future harassment and discrimination.

Swift Aviation spokesman Steve Roman says the company will respond to the lawsuit "through the appropriate legal channels."
