The recent monsoon rains may be good for your grass and plants, but they're not so good when it comes to bugs.
It seems like there are four major offenders this year - termites, ants, scorpions and ticks.
We know there are critters here in the desert, but with above average rainfall, we are just seeing more of them. That's because the rain tends to not only flush them out, but helps with their breeding cycle. So what pests are homeowners most concerned about?
"When it comes to economic concerns, termites are the most important because of the cost and the damage they can do to a home, and the cost of treating them once you've had a problem. But most concerned ... and afraid of scorpions," said Cody Pace, an entomologist with Blue Sky Pest Control.
That's because those stings don't exactly tickle, and some people are allergic. Another troublesome pest this season seems to be brown dog ticks.
"Part of it is because of the rain. But they didn't used to vector any diseases, and they do now. We're seeing Rocky Mountain spotted fever," said Pace.
So despite the fact Arizona needs the rain, it can be a bit of a catch-22.
"We're living in the environment of the insects and the critters, and so when we have rain, it definitely helps their cause and can be a little detrimental to people as well," added Pace.
Experts said the best thing a person can do is some preventative pest control through an exterminator. And in the case of scorpions, try and eliminate their habitat, like wood piles and leaf litter.
