TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A couple out for a morning walk with their 4-month-old daughter in a stroller were seriously hurt Wednesday morning when they were hit by a pickup truck in Tempe, police said.

Witnesses said a car driven by Ruben Montalbo, 59, stopped for the family as they crossed the street.

The driver in the pickup truck, Michael Ontiveros Jr., 25, rear-ended the car and then crashed into the family, officers said.  

The pedestrians are Daniel Berarde, 33, and Amy Berarde, 30, who were walking their baby. Daniel Berarde suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Amy Berarde is still listed in critical condition. The baby is still listed in serious condition.

The Tempe Fire Department said the couple were walking down Guadalupe near All American Way when the accident happened.

Tempe police are investigating.

Police said there are traffic restrictions from westbound College Avenue and Guadalupe Road. All westbound lanes are closed in the area. Eastbound lanes are closed at College Avenue and Maple Drive.
