Brandon Baird (l), Brian Baird
SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -
Twin brothers were jailed Sunday on charges of shoplifting and stealing a donation container placed outside a Valley Walmart by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Surprise police said.
Police were given descriptions of Brandon Baird, 21, and Brian Baird, 21, both from El Mirage, by a pair of VFW volunteers who chased the suspects but lost sight of them outside the Walmart at 13700 W. Bell Rd.
Officers were driving through the parking lot of Sprouts Farmer's Market at 13759 W. Bell Rd. when a witness approached them and said the pair was hiding inside. Officers entered the building and found the Bairds in the store's restroom.
Authorities said they found the brothers carrying the stolen donation money.
While police were processing the pair, officers said they were approached by an employee of the Cobblestone Auto Spa located nearby. The employee recognized the suspects and told officers the two men had stolen items from his store in August but had not been caught.
Police later added shoplifting to the list of charges.
