Police said someone they are looking for tossed puppies out of the cab of a vehicle Sunday morning.
Phoenix Police Officer Mario Bertuccelli said whoever did this was driving a black tow truck in the area of 5200 West McDowell Rd. when witnesses saw the dogs hit the road at approximately 8 a.m.
"They were actually thrown out from the passenger side of the cab," said Bertuccelli.
He said the puppies are a lab mix and are approximately 7 weeks old.
A witness said she saw the puppies' mother also get hurt, "The momma dog gets hit directly after," said Rosie Garcia.
Police said the adult dog was hit by a car and then ran off along with several other puppies.
Police say four puppies were rescued and were taken to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelter for treatment.
Police are looking for whoever is responsible and said they could face felony charges.
"I am doing a report and we are investigating this," said Bertuccelli.
He said he personally searched for the adult dog and the other puppies for approximately two hours, but had no luck finding them.
Residents and businesses were notified about the incident.
