Off-highway vehicle fatalities more than tripled last year, and that's prompting Arizona Game and Fish to urge riders to be safe and responsible over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
OHV fatalities jumped from eight in 2010 to 29 in 2011. There were more than 1,600 non-fatal injuries last year too.
"The increase in injuries and deaths is primarily a result of improper equipment use or negligence by riders," said Jimmy Simmons, OHV law enforcement program manger for Game and Fish.
Simmons encourages all OHV enthusiasts to "ride safe, ride smart, ride responsibly and always wear a helmet."
