Citizens for a Better AZ launches campaign against Arpaio

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Leaders of Citizens for a Better Arizona are launching what they call the "most extensive ground campaign ever assembled to defeat Sheriff (Joe) Arpaio."

Arpaio is running against Democrat Paul Penzone in the November election for Maricopa County sheriff. Penzone is a 21-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department and longtime face of the Silent Witness program.

"Our coalition of Republicans, Democrats and independents will build on our victories in the recall and Pearce's defeat in the Republican Primary and we will defeat Arpaio in November."

On Tuesday, former state Senate President Russell Pearce lost to businessman Bob Worsley in their race for the Republican Senate nomination in District 25 in Mesa.
