SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
Water rescues have kept fire crews busy over the past few months.
Most are because of drivers ignoring flooded roads during Monsoon storms, but they've also had to respond after children got swept away in floodwater.
Today Scottsdale Fire Department first responders practiced survival swimming and learned how to best deal with obstacles in the water.
"Our guys are good. We study; we know what we're doing. We don't get in the water often so getting these guys into the water and having them put on their personal protective equipment and do some of the techniques is really important," shared Captain Tim Cooper with Scottsdale Fire.
As a reminder, Arizona does have a stupid motorist law.
If you drive past signs warning of a flooded road and get stuck you are responsible for the cost of your rescue.
