GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

Two people were seriously injured and had to be flown to hospitals after a collision in front of a Gilbert high school Tuesday morning.

One person had to be extricated, police said.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. in front of Mesquite High School at McQueen and Warner roads. The other patients were treated at the scene.

Police said all the occupants of both cars involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

A helicopter landed on school grounds to fly the patients to hospitals.

 No other information was immediately available.
